Middle school marks the beginning of a very exciting time in
a student's life. They are just beginning to explore their own
individuality and are no longer children, but are considered young people.
The days of walking in line and having only one or two teachers are over!
They now have the freedom to test boundaries and see how far life will take
them. At LMCA it is our goal to help these students reach their full
potential spiritually, socially, and of course, academically.
The middle school program offers a wide varieties of programs to help
students become the best they can on their way to high school. Below
you will find a list of what makes LMCA a unique place for middle school:
CHAPEL - Middle school
students participate in a weekly chapel service which occurs on Monday
afternoons from 1:35-2:50. This is a time of teaching by Mr. Billy
Combs, our middle school pastor. Mr. Combs takes the students deep
into the Bible and makes real-life comparisons to what the students are
dealing with in today's society. Chapels are also a time of praise,
worship, and prayer. Parents are encouraged to attend the chapel
services and become involved!
ACADEMIC SCHEDULES -The
schedule of a middle school student is one of academic intensity. LMCA
proudly offers students an academic day which includes the cores of Bible,
math, science, English, and history, as well as daily Spanish and physical
education classes. Students are also offered one elective class per
semester. The electives students can choose from include:
Photography/Scrapbooking, Missions, Technology, Life Skills, Fitness, Drama,
Art, and Film Appreciation. Students are also able to try out for the
middle school worship band. This band will be the main music provider
for the middle school chapel services.
As you can see, a student's schedule is definitely full. Part of the
middle school education is to teach the students how to manage their time so
they can fit in their studies, sports, social lives, and other
extra-curricular activities. It is the goal of the middle school staff
to prepare the students for an excellent high school experience!
UNIQUE OPPORTUNITIES
- Education does not just take place in a classroom setting! We
believe in exposing our students to a variety of opportunities! These
opportunities include:
MISSION TRIP TO MEXICO -
Missions is a true part of the heart of LMCA. God commands us to go
into all the world and spread the good news! Middle school is
committed to this commandment wholeheartedly! One of the main ways we
accomplish this is by taking a group of middle school students to Ensanada,
Mexico each year in February to partner with a church there. Past
trips have had the students building houses, doing campus improvements,
sponsoring a vacation Bible school, and witnessing to the community.
This is an invaluable experience for our students who participate. All
who have gone one this trip attest to life changing experiences!
THIRD WEEK MINISTRIES -
In continuing with missions, LMCA middle school students have the
opportunity to participate in Third Week Ministries each month. These
are mission opportunities to impact the Las Vegas valley. Students can
help out at the Las Vegas Rescue Mission, Women's Resource Center, and even
Opportunity Village all during the third week of the month.
MISSION BE A BLESSING -
For a week in February, while some students are in Mexico and some are in
San Diego, many stay at LMCA to bless the school! These students get
the chance to work with the facilities team, help out with younger students,
and team build with their peers! All who have participated in this
mission, express what a wonderful time it is!
EDUCATIONAL TRIP TO SAN
DIEGO - Field trips are one of the best ways to learn in an alternative
environment. With this trip, students journey to San Diego in February
to learn all about the creatures God has placed in the oceans! For
four days, students will enjoy spending the night at SeaWorld, visiting the
beach, exploring the Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, and seeing how a real
aircraft carrier works.
ACSI EVENTS - Throughout
the year, the students will have the chance to participate in events
sponsored by the Association of Christian Schools International. These
are competitions in which students get to show off their unique talents.
These competitions include the spelling, bee, speech meet, math Olympics,
art festival, and science fair. If a students wins at the district
level, they are eligible to move on to the regional, state, or even national
level!
STUDENT LEADERSHIP - It
is a goal of LMCA to instill leadership in the students. One way the
middle school accomplishes this goal is by having a middle school student
council. This group of ten students is elected to positions by the
middle school staff. The council is in charge of Christmas grams, the
middle school Mother's Day Luncheon, middle school Chapel Honoring Our Dads,
pep rallies, and supporting the school in any way possible!
SPORTS - LMCA is proud to
offer a variety of sports for our middle school students. Girls can
participate in volleyball and basketball and boys are able to participate in
basketball. New sports for our middle school are always on the
horizon, so be sure to look for new opportunities!
As can be seen, LMCA is truly a unique environment for middle school
students!
